“Glasgow Pet Collective is here to advocate for, protect and create Glasgow’s pet families.”

Community Rehoming
Community rehoming is an innovative program developed by Glasgow Pet Collective to include owners in the process to rehome their pets. Our community rehoming program also aims to keep pets in their current homes up to their transition into their new home.
When a pet owner cannot keep their pet through the rehoming process, GPC will place the animal with a foster family. Utilising foster homes allows pets to remain in a home environment.
Rehoming Process
Glasgow Pet Collective has designed a six step rehoming process to match pets with families and families with pets. The steps are as follows:
- The perspective family looks through information about the pets who need a home.
- The perspective family and GPC staff have a conversation about suitable pets.
- The perspective family and the pets current family (or foster family) meet virtually or in person to introduce the pet and share information about them.
- The perspective family fills out a rehoming application for the pet they would like to adopt.
- Glasgow Pet Collective staff meet virtually or in person with the perspective family to talk about how they can best integrate the pet into their home environment and any other concerns or questions they may have.
- A short time after the pet has changed hands, Glasgow Pet Collective follows up with the new pet family to see how the pet has settled in and navigate any potential issues proactively.
This process is designed to support the pet and their current and future families in the rehoming transition. It will also allow for all parties to “get to know” each other and work collaboratively towards a better future for all.
On the Medical Needs of Adoptable Pets
Pets looking for a home often experience a variety of health statuses. Some pets that come into Glasgow Pet Collective’s rehoming program will have been neutered, microchipped, they may be up to date on vaccines and free of any health conditions. Others may need vetting. We will provide for immediate vetting needs to the degree that funding allows and, whenever possible, will ensure that pets with additional needs are placed with families who have the resources needed to meet these needs. These resources could be monetary, they could be dependent on the time that a new owner would have to care for special medical needs and/or if the new owner is able to access affordable veterinary care.
