How we Rehome Pets

Community Adoptions

Community rehoming is an innovative program developed by Glasgow Pet Collective to include owners in the process to rehome their pets. Our community rehoming program also aims to keep pets in their current homes up to their transition into their new home.

When a pet owner cannot keep their pet through the rehoming process, GPC will place the animal with a foster family. Utilising foster homes allows pets to remain in a home environment.

Open Adoptions Process

“Open Adoption” is a process in which adopters of all backgrounds are welcomed into the adoption community. The basic idea being that people are the solution to pet homelessness, not the problem. We trust adopters and treat them as partners in our work to find amazing homes and create beautiful families.

As in any industry, racial, class and other biases are endemic in animal welfare generally, and adoption selections specifically. That is not okay with us.

To that end, we will always check our bias at the door, whilst making sure that we find excellent parents for our rescue pets.

1

Finding a Pet

The perspective family looks through information about the pets who need a home.

2

Matching

The perspective family fills out our adoption application (view cat app here, view dog app here). Shortly thereafter, GPC staff have a conversation with the prospective adopter. Once we review initial applications, we complete a phone or video conversation with potential new owners to address items specific to the needs of the individual pet.

3

Meeting

The perspective family and the pets current family (or foster family) meet virtually or in person to introduce the pet and share information about them.

4

Onboarding the Family

Glasgow Pet Collective staff meet virtually or in person with the perspective family to talk about how they can best integrate the pet into their home environment and any other concerns or questions they may have.

5

Adoption

The pet officially changes hands and enters their new home!

6

Checking In

A short time after the pet has changed hands, Glasgow Pet Collective follows up with the new pet family to see how the pet has settled in and navigate any potential issues proactively.
